Musical instruments....

I took up the banjo at 10, the guitar when I was 12: since then I have accumulated a bit of a collection: traded up my first guitar to get.....
Eko Ranger 6 acoustic: owned since I was 16
Shaftesbury Les Paul copy: owned since age 18
Clifford Essex1913 (100 years old) 5 string banjo: given to me by my eldest bro in an untypical generous moment in 1966. Restored by me 10 years ago at don't tell the wife cost. Currently valued at 2 and a bit grand. He paid 3 quid in a junk shop.
1964 Gibson mandolin: found in a junk shop in the 70's: they didn't realise the value: paid 30 quid, have been offered 4k. Won't sell.
1978 Fender Strat in honey sunburst.
Gretsch acoustic. American classic.
1975 Marshall twin cab valve amp.

Plus a random Epiphone slide guitar, clarinet and a few violins. And penny whistles etc etc. and a set of keyed Hohner blues harps. Mouth organs to the uninitiated.

Can play them all, badly. Violin especially badly. Guitar: not too bad but fingers losing agility as I age.

Anyone got anything interesting?

ooh another subject close to my heart. Well done John.
I started off with the violin when I was 7. But soon realised I couldn't improve on the sound of cats fighting. Asked to play the triangle with the school orchestra. Not impressed with that so came home with a trumpet. Joined the ATC and became head bugler and joined Pegswood colliery brass band. School trip to Spain arrived back with a Spanish guitar and attended school guitar lessons. Built a guitar in woodwork for O level music.
Traded in the Spanish guitar for a second hand Eco 12 string guitar and wired it up to be semi acoustic.
Played bass with a punk band called Greasy Dick and the Vaseline's. While playing at local community centres, our drummer would always forget his strip of carpet so made do with a six inch nail through the bass drum and into the wooden stage. We also had flower pot stand for mic stands. One night we actually got paid. An unappreciative audience threw coins at us and we were booed off stage. We were way before our time. :nose:
So with the 12 string joined a folk group while living in Berwick and did the local pubs playing popular requests like Mull of Kintyre and Flower of Scotland. We played at Haggerston Castle for the local Ford Garage Christmas Dance/Dinner. We were the second act of three. After the first act had finished we made our way to the stage. As we broke into song the dinner gong was sounded and the audience all disappeared into the dinning room. Playing in front of 3 kids with plates of jelly and ice cream for 20 minutes. When we finished, the diners made their way back to the dance hall. Got paid the princely sum of £25.( A lot of money in the 70s. I paid £25 for a Morris 1100). But that is another story.
Now I have added to my collection a Les Paul Studio and Vox DA15 amp, a Ibanez EW 20ASENT and a Yamaha FG 403.
Recently I was invited to an open mic and played my heart out singing Brown Eyed Girl, Train in G Major ( Lindisfarne), Honky Tonk Woman, Dirty old Town ( Pogues). Galway Girl ( Steve Earle and Sharon Shannon ) and Please be with Me, (Eric Clapton/Duane Allman). I think it went well, but never been asked back since, o well. Real work, getting married and having kids put a stop to all that nonsense.
Back to reality and the present. I get lots of music from the web site Ultimate Guitar to keep things fresh and fingers honed. Kids are all grown up and left home. So no more captive audiences to play to. Anne my wife just about tolerates the noise. My daughter gets married in June and I have been asked to practice Write You A Song and Hey There Delilah ( Plain White T's). So just maybe I have a fan. :hugs:
Anyway Rabbited on far too long. Happy memories from a frustrated pop star. But my wish list to add to the collection has to be a Fender strat and a Gretsch hollow body. But you can only play one guitar at a time....quote from my wife over and over again. :nonod:

My main instrument is the Euphonium (completed grade 6 then lost interest in grading) I have a Besson Soverign, but not played it for a few years....

Owned several guitars and can't bring myself to list (I'll get upset :slapme: ) currently own a £10 junk shop Horner accoustic, that said it's a 70s one and not a terrible instrument for £10.

Also play piano a little, have a Roland digital piano back at mum 'n' dads.

I play bass and a little guitar, but my passion is drums.. proper ones not BONGOS lol well i say proper. my mrs wont allow me to have a real set so i have a session pro electronic drum kit tucked away upstairs

I sometimes rig it up so some of the it plays through my surround sound and the kick I play through my 100w vox bass amp :omg: lol

Yamaha keyboard, alto sax, harmonica and a set of bongos here. I can sing, however most people prefer that I don't.....lol
