Just need advise on this. 2005 TF 115. Light on switch does not illuminate. With engine on, H/L' on, no rear fog guard lamps. Fuses check and fine. Bulbs are healthy. There is power to the switch. Would assume switch faulty however could fault exist further back in system? Maybe ECU. Anyone with similar experiences? Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers.

Could be a break in the wiring from the boot lid or a bad earth. Have you got power at the bulb holder. Rear fogs will only work with headlamps on dipped beam. have you taken fuses out and checked them with a tester?

If your boot loom wiring is OK then it could be a failed relay; on your 05 model it has the Pektron SCU (round alarm key fob) One of the control relays for the rear fogs is in the SCU module; it’s a dual relay shared by the horns.

Here is a list of control relays in the Pektron SCU:

Rear Fog Lights
Electric Window (drivers side only)
Central Locking/Superlocking
Windscreen Intermittent Wipe
Windscreen Washers
Horn.

There is a good write-up from Technozen at MG-Rover.org from this link: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=384938

Thanks guys for your responses. Have carried out thorough check with a pal of mine who's ace with electrics. Looks like the BCU. Fortunately The MG specialist from where I purchased has covered the car with their own 6 month warranty and have offered to carry out the rectification work under that warranty. I am reliably informed they have experience of this fault. Just means a long drive over to Berkshire, but we'll make a day of it! Cheers again.

Get a relay and just wire around it.

Yep, agree with Andy. Bypass the CU with a standard relay.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I've always been curious why MEMS wired a lot of really simple stuff via an integrated controller, I'd understand if there was some sort of multiplexing going on, or there was communication via OBD, but there isn't.

Hey ho....

It is without doubt a BCU problem. The intermittent wiper mode has stopped functioning now, however, the good news is it's all covered under the warranty from Beech Hill Garage so the car will be there in a couple weeks time to have the problems rectified. Have also decided to have the Cambelt and waterpump changed as theres nothing in the vehicle history to show these have been attended too.

Also toying with the idea of changing the exhaust box to something a little more fruity without going over the top. Local chums seem to think Scorpion is the unit to go for.

Regards to all.

Update: Fog lamps now sorted. The SCU has been replaced under warranty thankfully. The intermittent wipe function also working. Work carried out by the team at Beech Hill Garage, Reading. I also had the cambelt, tensioner and waterpump replaced. Just need some good summer weather now. Next little job will be to refurb the petrol filler cap.
