Shortening the gearstick?
I bought a tap & die set to do our 02 TF when we had that rethreading is not needed for this one but would like to shorten it by 25mm at least?
TIA

Re threading the lever is usually a mare due to the taper below the threaded portion and the fact they're usually quite hard.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I carried out this mod to, however my gear knob is a aftermarket with a clamping mechanism with a couple of concealed screws so didn't have to worry about tapping a thread on. Knob is now right down to the gaiter and very positive to use.

I swear that the adjustment bolts on mine were a mix of imperial and metric as I could only get an imperial spanner to fit on one....

On our previous 02 TF I cut 25mm or 1" in old money off the shaft & threaded the shaft further down which wasn't right hard but I can't even get the knob off this one?

However, I bought the Rickbrook knob with the MG logo on and did as John has, I counter bored it deeper by around a further 10mm using a drill fractionally larger than the shaft diameter to ensure a tight fit at the top. I still had to run some insulating tape further down to ensure it still sat tight. If you are not worried about returning it to original yu can cut the shaft. I seem to recall the late David C with the orange LE500 did this on his, not sure if I read about it here or .org.
