Ouch. Fingers crossed for you but in some counties that is a ban, not just points.

Tough luck but as you say no excuses.
Hope it doesn't effect your insurance premium on renewal ;)

It's a court appearance for sure.

Nearly all police authorities go by the +50% rule. Anything less than 75mph and you'd get points and a fine at worst ...
..... sadly at (WTF were you thinking??) mph you'll be digging out your sunday best and booking a day off from work.

Hopefully you'll get to keep your licence.

Only time I'd touch the n word ( ninety) is very rarely on a quiet motorway. And i know i shouldn't. But Jesus made me do it, m'Lud. On the absolutely deserted, apart from a police car, M50, the motorway that time forgot. Got off with a warning. And a bollocking. A severe one.

If you were on an A road you're furked. Unless the magistrate is going out with your sister. Or brother. Or Mum.

Or if he doesn't believe an MG will actually do 90.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

About 6 years ago I got caught doing 61 mph in a 30mph limit ,about 2 in the morning on an open stretch towards a 60 limit where I accelerated a bit too early (yes I know its no excuse) that resulted in a day at court and was informed by the officer it was an automatic ban. but the duty solicitor put across that I needed my car for work etc and I came out with no ban, 5 points and a £650 fine relieved but gutted at the same time :(

Your best chance of escaping a ban is to show how a ban would badly affect others and in effect be a punishment for them, also enrolling for an advanced driving course might get you a few brownie points by showing you acknowledge your driving is something you need to improve

Are speed trap detectors legal? The last time I owned one was in South Africa, and the legal issues were...cloudy, at best.

Ain't it funny, how time slips away...?

Gps type detectors are legal in the UK the only devices which are clearly illegal are devices such as laser jammers/diffusers where you can be prosecuted for obstructing an officer in performing his duties or even perverting the course of justice.

Hope all goes well.
Just though I would warn you the laser detector are not much use in practice, by the time a laser hits your screen the speed of you car has already been recorded.
it takes less than 1/250 of a second to get a speed reading with a laser device.
by the time in goes off you've already got a ticket, sure they work but a lot of the time too late to be of any use.
Radar detectors are ok but again not that much use. Do not rely on any device to warn you of a speed traps. The best ones are not detectors but GPS based such as road angel of a tomtom with a camera data base loaded, is just as good if it is up to date. There is no real protection from handheld devices or vans that just park up at random locations.

Don't use the 911 in your mitigation or statement to court. The prosecution will use that as evidence that you were racing and any evidence you give to that effect will confirm it.

It's a sure fire way to a ban.

Simply state that you were in a hurry, had a lapse in concentration and never intended to endanger other road users or break the law.

Be contrite and plead your case that although your licence is very important to you, you understand that having one is a priviledge, and not a right to be abused.

Enrolling on a recognised AD course prior to your summons is good advice .... it *may* prove to be the difference between public and private transport in the near future ....... and just as importantly it'll improve your approach to driving. ;)
