Oil in the injection manifold? Good or Bad..

Oil in the injection manifold? Good or Bad.. was created by chrisrigby

So another entry onto the forum about my loved car... not a good one though so hopefully some of you that have a hell of lot more experience will be able to let me know your thoughts... This I think is related to my emissions issues.

Having another poke about the bay and looking at the injection manifold I noticed a connection... I took it off and had a look it was coated in oil fresh oil.. nice and clean. I cleaned it with some connection cleaner and put it back on. If there is oil in connection inside then it must have failed and also why would and how would oil be getting there?

I took the spark plug out of no 4 to find traces of oil I`ve seen it before but thought it was just the rocker cover gasket.

also inside the spark port

I put a clean piece of rag into the port to see if there was much oil there.. there was

So if there is oil being put into the injection manifold with the air and fuel mix this would I imaging result in the slight misfire I am having then if it is burning off together it is going to effect my emissions...

SO HOW TO FIX?

The easy answer is the rocker cover gasket (camshaft cover gasket).

If you have replaced that correctly and it is still collecting oil in the spark plug wells then the next option is the camshaft carrier, which is a hell of a lot more work.

Thanks CJJ I haven't replaced the gasket yet I was planning to do it after the mot but it wont go through high on the CO and I`ve tried lots now... what is the connection or is it a sensor for? will replacing the gasket stop oil getting to the manifold as well?

It's not usual for air to be sucked in through there. To me it would suggest a problem with head gasket or piston rings. To be honest that usually shows as pressure rather than vacuum, but I can't think of any other reason.

Thinking about it, check your breather pipes are clear and have a look at the iac valve.

We I don't have any mayo in there, I`ve checked the breather pipes.. I am right is saying the two on the rocker cover? all clear no damage blew them out nothing in there...

IAC valve?

My fear is that there is a piston ring issue, I guess the only way to check is a compression test wet and dry?

I think the rocker area is held under a vacuum by a feed from the inlet manifold via a rubber hose. This allows any gasses to be drawn back into the induction system to be burned off.

If your worried about your rings beg, borrow, steal, rent or buy a compression test gauge and do a compression test.

I think compression test is the way forward is it ok to buy a cheap one from eBay I'm only going to use it this once I hope to get an idea if there is something wrong internally... I like to do things myself and learn as I go but think after this I'm at the point where I need serious help?

Any one rebuilt there own engine?

Ok with what I was hoping to be a good local mechanic to help out on my f closing I need some help... In the event of finding after a compression test a fault in the engine I will need some one to help sort out the fault..

Anyone got some recommendations? Poole / Dorcester area
