Spare me from idiots!
About 3 months ago a mate found himself in a jam, his bloody awful old deathtrap Bedford van got put off the road by the rozzers. So he borrowed my old Ford Fairlane to get about while he fixed the van.
He calls me the other day complaining that it's overheating, so I tell him to bring it around so I can check it out.
The car shows up missing the roo bar, he confesses that he Liberaced another car that stopped suddenly at the lights and he's taken the roo bar off to repair it.
He then tells me he has already replaced the damaged RH headlight and the front bumper that was behind the roo bar.
On inspection I find that the radiator support panel was sufficiently bent to push one of the electric cooling fans into the water pump pully which was carving a nice semi circular slice out of the now dead fan motor.
How he couldn't hear any of this I don't know! But had been driving it like this for quite some time apparently.
:nonod:
No wonder it was over heating...what with the fan buggered and the water pump barely working!
I've fixed it all, over the weekend. Stripped the front of the car and dozed everything straight with my trusty hydraulic portapower.
Nothing like 10 Tonnes of carefully applied hydraulic pressure to push bent steel back into place!
He said he didn't hit hard, but the evidence I had the dubious delight to repair would suggest otherwise.
Thankfully before he got hold of the car I made him take out extended third party damage insurance cover for anything he might hit.
I've no idea what the other car is like, and I don't care, that's the insurance company's problem.
Now all of the above hasn't really upset me, I'm fairly Zen about it, But what did get on my goat was when the halfwited dropkick imbecile proceeded to tell me that my car wasn't as reliable as his bloody Bedford because it tended to overheat a lot! This the same Bedford that hasn't been on the road for 3 months an when it was on the road it wasn't on for long between head gaskets, cracked heads, front suspension failures etc.
:nonod:
I had to remind him that is was operator error (the inability of the driver to stay far enough behind the car in front so as to avoid hitting it) was the reason for overheating!
Yes I know I should've known better!
Here's some pix of the Fairlane before he did his handy work:

That Fairlane looks like it's got attitude but clearly the roo bar just isn't up to its job - so it must be your fault! Try a couple of girders sticking out forwards - that should sort it. If you need inspiration watch Mad Max again!!

I'm guessing that you should never lend your car to an Australian...
