The most annoying thing about this forum software. was created by Cobber

I bloody give up!
I've been trying to write a how to guide on my experiments of re-gassing of hydragas spheres and every bloody time I get near to finishing my first installment, I loose the lot!
It's the lack of a "Autosave" feature like all other forum software packages have that is the problem. Every time damned internet goes a bit vague or I bump the wrong key I loose the lot!
Bugger it! I won't bother in future, as lifes to short to spend redoing every damned thing over and over again.

What I do is...

Start writing it in word or similar then copy n paste into a new post when checked. Most software / web sites close a inactive session down after a while. Feel your fustration and we all would benefit from anyone input / shortcuts and don't do this tips.

Don't give up on the how to.

Maybe one of the mods or Simon might be able to give a better answer on this but typically web technology has a default timeout for security.

Cobber,

I'd really like to read about what you've been doing as I have a hydragas F and plan to keep it. It was very interesting following a 2003 TF the other week on rough roads - he was really bouncing while I had a great ride.

I think Ben's suggestion of using Word then pasting works well for text although you will still need to up load and insert the pictures. If you use Word, you can keep a copy too.

Don't give up please!

Richard

there's a a few ways members post longer threads.
1. In a text editor (word) first then paste it over
2. Submit the post frequently then edit it.
3. Split the post into several smaller ones

I have had this problem... Type text in then use to lose it all when I uploaded the pictures. As i havent got Word on the ipad I now type the text in first then select all and copy, so if I lose the text whilst uploading pictures I can easily paste it back in and then cut and paste it around the pictures from there, its a bit of a pain but it works if you are havent got Word or similar on iPad :broon:

Don't give up on us baby! As David Soul sang so long ago. :tada:

When I do a how to I compose in a 'word' type programme and then post post it in sections adding photos as I go. TBH it makes it easier to edit each section as I go.
If you have Microsoft word or Apache open office( free download ) You can compose it on that.

And here is the Apache open office fruit based version(Apple)

It did the same thing to me when I tried to do how to's on the installation of engine bay extraction fans and the proper way to instal DAB+ audio.
Which explains why neither of those "how to's" saw light of day either.
I've lost the pix for those now due to a dead hard drive, so now they are lost.

It's just so easy to use forum software that has an autosave feature.
The lack of autosave is the only thing I really don't like about this forum software package.

There is an adage that goes:
If you have something that is less than user friendly......
don't be surprised when no one want's to use it!

It's not the fault of the forum but it might be some useful feedback to be forwarded onto the forum software developers to chew on.

I use open office word processor for my books, so can recommend it. And it does have auto-save, thank goodness. Imagine a 140,000 word Ms disappearing! :omg:

I just use word and insert any photo bucket links so the whole document is ready to just cut and paste onto the site.
It also means I have a backup of the how to.
I've yet to see a forum with auto save.
