I am genuinely confused why someone would beg someone else NOT to get an iPhone. Makes absolutely no sense to me to put someone off a quality product. My daughter folded to peer pressure to ditch her last iPhone and go with a Samsung Galaxy S3. By the time her contract was up, and two replaced batteries, she could not wait to get back to iPhone. I have had iPhones since the iPhone 3G. What that actually means is I had an iPhone 3G from it's launch until Christmas 2012, and then I got a second hand iPhone 4S. They work like a charm. You don't have to chase after every model that comes out. If you do, that says more about you than it does about Apple, frankly. But what the heck - do what you want to do - it's your money.

And Rich: iSheep? Really? Isn't that a little unnecessarily insulting to people who choose iPhones or other Apple products because those products best suit them and they have decided that it is the best use of their money? Let's face it, unless you are going to have a custom phone made for you, choosing Samsung, or Nokia or Sony or whatever is more than equally sheep-like, surely?

Ain't it funny, how time slips away...?

Oh, and by the way, my old iPhone 3G is still doing sterling service as an iPod Touch.

Think I hit a nerve...Sorry Dave!

I like Apple products, I just don't like the way your forced to use them and I hate iTunes with a passion.

It wasn't really you, Rich. You were just the straw that broke the camel's back mate, sorry. I just see no logic in the irrational criticism of Apple, particularly in light of the fact that if Apple was as bad as some would have us all believe, then surely it wouldn't be the size of company that it is? I can't see any difference between iTunes and any other online book or music download seller. I can't see any difference between iTunes functionality and any other mp3 functionality. I don't see any difference between being "forced" to use apple products than watching people let Windows take over the control of their applications. Etcetera, etcetera. I sit here and use my MacBook to go online and get frustrated at my wife whining about how long it takes her to get online with a Windows based laptop, particularly when the fault is actually in the fact that she is just too bone idle to switch her passwords etc to the MacBook that I bought her so that her online experience can be quicker and smoother.

So, it ain't you that bugs me mate. Not individually. I am offended, or irritated, by the lack of logic, usually from people who wouldn't actually know an Apple from a flaming cumquat. :yesnod: :nonod:

Personally I'm not a fan of apple products although they seem to be very good if that's your thing.

However it seems that many people have to have the latest iPhone as soon as it comes out in a follow the crowd sheep like way.

And although I don't like them I have just upgraded my 18yr old's phone to an iphone 4.

Sorry Dave, the above is not a response to your post above that as I hadn't turned over to page 2 - I think my biggest problem with apple is how it doesn't intergrate into any other product in the same way that products from most manufactureres products intergrate with each other.

James - that is exactly what I mean mate - lots of people seem to "need to have the latest" iPhone, but surely that says more about those people than about Apple? And is that any different from the number of people who change their phones at every opportunity anyway? Lots of people seem to "need to have the latest" Samsung Whatever Mk VI as well - or whatever is being advertised on telly?

I suspect that you are right, again, mate. BUT - is it fair (to the customer OR the product) to simply ask someone not to buy an iPhone without justifying why you feel so strongly about it? :-?

Having just read your next post, James, I don't seem to have a problem making my Apple stuff talk to other products. Maybe I am just lucky. I use Open Office, which talks to Windows Office, and produces Windows files - .doc etc., I use iTunes and it integrates CDs I have bought, and auto converts mp3s in order to deal with them. The biggest issue is not having Flash Player as default on the iPad, and I have overcome that by using Puffin Browser (free) which plays Flash on iPads. I think, if you want it to work, there are almost always ways to make it work.

Ive just typed a massive post and it didnt work - cant be bothered to type it all again...
I dont mean any offence Dave but iPhones are crap and theyve had their day. Inferior in almost every way technologically, they rely on avid advocates of their products to defend the brand and blindly buy.
Nobody who researched phones now would buy an iPhone compared to the HTC One, Galaxy S4 or even the Sony Experia Z. They are bought because of either;
a) their reputation of being the 'best' - now about 2 years out of date
b) their fashionable and symbolic status - also now starting to fade given the popularity of superior products, both in consumer purchases but also corporate advertising and product placement
c) the consumer has already bought into the 'Apple OS' lifestyle and the only products their compatible with is other Apple products. By this I mean the app store / itunes rather than using Open Office.
