Galaxy 4 = £549.95 from Argos
iPhone 5 = £529 from Apple.
If Apple put out inferior quality, how long do you think their reputation would carry them? This is the real world and people vote with their feet. It may be your opinion that they are crap, but the sales say that they aren't.
Fashion symbol? With all the advances from Apple, they are way past being a fashion statement. Again, if they didn't work, they wouldn't sell. And as I said in a previous post, it is not necessary to chase every new Apple model, any more than it is necessary to chase every new Samsung product (or any other manufacturer). That says more about those people who "must have the latest" than it says about Apple.
They are locked in to the Apple system? So what? Are Windows based phones not locked into the Windows system (which, by the way, is vastly inferior to Apple's system), or Android locked into the Android system? That is a daft argument, if you don't mind my saying so.
This of course, is just my humble opinion, but I'm afraid that your arguments just don't hold up, for me. You won't win a comparison argument by attempting to make Apple users look like numpties, or imply that the company is somehow just living on past reputation, I'm afraid. Have a look at Apple's share price - it is based on the success of the company, and that comes from support from returning, satisfied customers.
I ran a 3G from when it was launched, till Christmas last year. No problems, worked like a charm. Still gets used as an iPod Touch. I didn't go out and buy an iPhone 5 - I bought a second hand, perfectly working 4S from Fleabay. Works like a charm. No reason to think it won't carry on doing that. It also made it dead easy to transfer all my music and stuff from my old phone.
Ain't it funny, how time slips away...?

Galaxy S4 has been out 3 months, iPhone 5 has been out for a year. The price will obviously reduce to counter releases of newer products to keep them in the market. When the iPhone 6 (or 5s) comes out, expect it to top £600.
People are voting with their feet - more people are moving away from iPhone to other devices than are going from other devices to iPhone with the market leader indeed being Samsung as reported here .
Apple arent way past being a fashion statement, they just arent one any longer. Up until 2 years ago they were seen as the 'must have' device. Yes they drove some innovation but with the release of the 4s they dropped the ball as it wasnt revolutionary enough to warrant a new handset compared to the 4 and when they released the 5 they had been overtaken in terms of features and functionality.
And to my daft argument of the relevant 'Ecosystems', its about the devices. To use iOS you must have an Apple product therefore once you are in the Apple ecosystem you can only buy from Apple, hence return customers. With Android you have a choice of manufacturer and therefore you can buy a better device without being tied into only one model. If Samsung made a faux pas with their latest phone I could buy HTC, Sony or even Huawei and most, if not all of my apps would be transferable without having to buy them again. Windows, I agree is pretty crap but again, you've got Nokia and HTC to choose from.
Im sorry my arguments dont hold up for you. When was the last time you saw an iPhone advert that showed off the quality of its features? You dont anymore because feature list doesnt stack up against other products on the market and reverted to selling the iPhone 5 based on the shape of its headphones and a screen that 'matched' the size of your thumb - on the assumption that all iPhone users have the same sized thumb.
Oh and you mentioned share price, 12 months ago they were priced at around $700 and now stand at less than $500... Id say that was quite a drop - although admittedly this has picked up from their low in April of about $390 Just saying
Haha and ill quote a conversation ive just had with the girlfriend...
"Who are you discussing iPhones with anyway?"
"A bloke called Dave"
"Everybody knows iPhones arent as good, they just like them and theyre pretty"

The price of the iPhone 5 has not changed since its' release. I call that consistency. Have you noticed that second hand iPhones also hold their price? That makes them a good investment.
I wonder how many of the people who you claim are moving away are in fact simply product fatigued and are giving Samsung a go? In my experience once they find out just how short lived and unreliable Samsungs are, they will return to iPhone with their next purchase. Of course that is speculation, but it will be interesting to see what happens. It certainly happened with my daughter.
It doesn't matter how many choices of manufacturer you have - if the system is crap, it is crap. If Samsung is the best alternative to Apple, why would you go further down the line away from the best with HTC, Sony, Nokia, Huawei (whoever they may be) and all the others.
I have never seen an iPhone ad, as far as I know. That means that if I have seen one, it made little or no impact. My choice of iPhone stems from my knowledge of Apple technology in general. I also base my experience of Samsung on having owned one years ago and watching my daughter spitting blood when her battery died (twice). I also watched her friends who were seduced into buying Crackberries give them up in short order to go to either Samsung or Apple.
You quote the Apple share price dip and omit to mention the uncertainty caused around the death of Steve Jobs. That is a little selective, don't you think? And considering that prior to that, Apple were the market leaders, which frankly makes them the prime target, and realistically only gives them one way to go.
Didn't Samsung just steal Apple's design anyway. I am sure that is what the courts said. Just saying.
When the iPhone 6 or 5C or whatever they are going to call it does come out, the price will be totally irrelevant to me. I bought one new iPhone, once. Since then I have been happy with a used iPhone. I don't see why that should change. and you were the one who raised the price spectre in the first instance.
My iPhone also makes my life convenient insofar as it talks easily to my MacBook, my iPad and my iPod Touches. Your Samsung might talk to your tablet and your PC laptop, but while you are waiting for your devices to connect to the internet via a tortoise slow Windows system, I'll be finished doing what I needed to do and also painted the house. :broon:
Samsung may be flavour of the month at the moment, but I am not sure how long they can keep it up, and I am pretty sure that if you are honest with yourself, you don't know either. However, carry on irrationally writing off Apple. Hopefully you won't put too many people off of having a quality product. I'll catch you on the flip side.

Nobody can win this debate because youre firmly in Apple's camp and will find any reason to justify yourself whereas im completely anti-apple.
Yes I currently prefer Samsung but I know that the flexibility of Android will allow me the option to follow innovation so if Samsung didnt keep it up, i could switch to HTC (given the battle for the best phone on the market was between those two brands) and not lose out. Freedom of choice is something Apple doesnt provide, its their way or the highway. Lets see if Apple can ever catch up. Personally I dont think they will as their 'visionary' is no longer here.

Find me an iPhone / Galaxy deal for less than £20 per month and post me a link to it...
