A simple jack up and rock about up and down should give some indication of any play.
Wayward steering is one sympton of a good indicator of a bearing problem on mgf mgtf although wayward steering can not be associated to bearings alone.

I replaced the osr one at 110,000 miles because it was shot. The other 3 were fine.

I seem to get through rear bearings quite quickly I am guessing its cheap quality?

Had a similar problem with a mini a few years ago, found out the hub was worn and so the bearings weren't being clamped up correctly.

The MGF /TF can also suffer from worn hubs so that the bearing is moving in there. Causing problems -only cure is replace the hubs.

Our F has done over 130,000 and has had one set of new wheel bearings in its lifetime so far.

Mine needed a N/S/R at 70k, all the others appear to be sound and original.
