I have a degree in Modern English.
I also have a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
And an MBA.
And am a Chartered Engineer. And a member of the IEE. That's the Institute of Electrical Engineers. Woo.
So I'm John and Sue MSc BA MBA CEng MIEE. Which I think is impressive as Quals go. I have my card printed on kitchen roll to get it all on dahling.
And amazingly even I think you should all get out more and meet Real People. And talk to them. If folk get the sense of what they mean in a post it really doesn't matter if their grammar and syntax are correct.
Spelling police. pi$$ on you. You will make a mistake. And I will catch you. :yesnod:
And I'm really boring. Honest.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Another one I see a lot of.
Gray instead of grey.
Mouths instead of months.
My favourite reight instead if right sometimes reyt.
We should embrace all spellings if all kinds. My cousin is crap with a own and paper however give him some spanners and he can fix anything.
Ps. Most spell checkers are crap at medical terms

The damned things are always wanting to delete the letter "U" from words, and always trying replace the letter "S" with a "Z" To suit the Yank preference.

Zeds can be OK in proper English eg as in organize. I was taught to use the first spelling on the COD if there were alternatives. Which reminds me that 'taught' (in the teaching sense) and 'taut' (as in the being tight sense) are frequently mixed-up. Also we seem to have some issues with 'brake' & 'break'. It's more about meanings than spelling (which I'm crap at to be honest so I have to work at getting it right). Another one you see most days is 'accomodation' which should be 'accommodation'. Time for a strong coffee.

I must admit that I am one person that misspelling does annoy because a lot of it is just down to laziness. Does it really take much effort to learn the difference between break and brake?
To a certain extent if the meaning is clear, then the spelling and grammar aren't vital. If it is clear, but sometimes the meaning is lost.
We must also remember that not everyone using the site has English as their first language and may rely on online translation. Then the difference between brake and break does become an issue.
Most online spellcheckers are US orientated, hence the battle with U s in words. and gray instead of grey etc.

Zeds are good, we own three.
Forum messages, email chat, SMS etc. are casual conversation and as such it's less important to use perfect spelling and grammar than it would be for formal communication as long as the message is quickly and correctly understood.
