Flippin head gasket!!
After being laid up for winter and completing a few little mods and jobs just thought I would take it for a run....
Checked all coolant levels etc.. and it appears I have oil in the water!
Typical was going to tax it the end of the month..... Still could have been summertime.
Think I might give this new multi layer gasket ago!

Having this issue with a zr 160.the drivetrain was removed this morning.Replacing with a different block and head i had reskimmed pressure hot tested etc,Currently awaiting Glenn MG MANIA LTD to drop me headset and bolts in to workshop genuine waterpump (not the cast one). & timing belt .zzzzzzzzzz.

Nice pics. I'm on the scrounge now, you don't have any of those yellow use OAT only coolant ring labels knocking about do you? I could do with one. RichnPaula made me one but its on its way out

Just Thought I would give you an update on my progression, if I am teaching a granny to suck eggs let me know!
Removed the head and it appears I caught it nice an early.
As you can see the rubber has just started to come away, also realised this isn't the more recent reinforced item.
Also gone here.
When you look at the head surface the area where rubber has come away coincides with some ptting on the head face
Time to send the head for a skim...
Also checked the liners seems they haven't sunk and are either flush or just a little above at 0.014". Again various reports about how much if any the liners are supposed to sit proud?
According to the BGA gasket specs the liners can be anywhere from 0.00 (flush) upto 0.075mm!
Obviuosly that isn't a lot and is quite difficult to measure correctly
Was tempted to remove the liners and use liner shims of 0.003 but decided as they are at least flush I should be ok.
Seems to be some speculation about which Gasket to use, SLS or MLS??
Seems to me the SLS is better and taking up any slight deviation with the liners so I have ordered a SLS item.
Also as the head appears to be a little pitted, it may have some annealing so have ordered a stainless head saver which apperantly spreads the load better and creates a barrier between the gasket and the head surface.
In the meantime I am going to powder coat the inlet manifold!

Defo use the Mls,Mg mania Ltd speak to Glenn i never had a problem with his headgaskets sets and included is the shim saver plus bolts. 67.99 he uses German head bolts not the inferior chinese ones,Worth whipping the sump off and changing the oil ladder rail the headbolts torque up on them there was issues on most k series with them coming loose.
Do you not think it worth having a light skim providing the valves allow and worth doing stem seals cam seals why the heads off.
