Alternator

Hi all
Well after reading about TF alternators on here not lasting much more that 60,000 mls and some failing at 30,000 mls I came to the conclusion that at 62k mls mine was close to dying so got another one from ebay and put it on the car. That is when the trouble started, on starting the car up for the first time with the new alternator on it failed to charge strait away taking 7-10 mins to start charging. Then a week later the ign light flashed 3-5 times and again 5 days later. Then it stopped charging and the car nearly stopped but than it started charging again. So got on to the supplier [ and paid again ] they sent out another one. Yes the wrong one was sent so now waiting for the third alt to come. The trouble is that the rectfier is not working 100% on the alt and that has caused the trouble. :woowoo:

Now you set another paranoia virus in my head - mine has 74k mls... :bat:

74 wow that is very good. As said most don't get past 65 and some retied at 30 but with alternators if you are 10 mls from home and it goes you may not make it back

I don't think my alternator's got long left, 69k and just started with the dashboard light flickering silliness.

Where was it you got the new one from? I've just been looking on fleabay for a replacement.

I got mine from Victoria auto parts, 01162510563 it was £91:50 but it makes 110 Ah not 85, also it was NEW not remanufactured.

Mines on 137000 original alternator. It is pretty noisy but still working!

Yes the F does have a good record of lasting but the TF does not as the TF was made by Bosch and the F were made by M M an Italy firm so much for German workmanship
