What was your favourite car owned by your dad?

The most dog-rough car I ever saw in the Uk was a Moskvich 412 bought by a workmate. It was in the late seventies and he paid 300 quid for it with 2k on the clock. It was 6 months old: price should have told him something........a staggering 2 and a half grand or so new iirc.

I drove Dacia Denems, Gaz trucks and Trabbies while working in Romania in the nineties. Rolls Royce Phantoms in comparison. :yesnod:

I recall the Polski Fiat: a poor mans Lada. Designed to give Lada owners someone to mock. A tragic waste of energy and raw materials, the lot of them.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

The one I remember most when I was a kid in the early 80'swas a couple of ex telecom dodge spacevans in their bright yellow paintwork

But the one that stands out is the landrover 110 station wagon he had before he died in 2001.

Should've been mine but my mum sold it for a pittance to a local farmer

Now that's what I call an underprivileged childhood..... ;)

He had a Triumph Herald when I was born and inherited a convertible one as well when I was four.

Both these were traded in for a Ford Corsair 2.0 V4 which was a cracking car in it's day.

It was traded in for the Lada which became mine when I started working and he got a
Lancia Beta which eventually got scrapped (he made it on to Capital Radio when it broke down on Hyde Park Corner during Friday afternoon rush hour, he worked in one of the roads off Hyde park corner and was about to drive to Glasgow to see his mum.)

Then came a Vauxhall Cavalier and a Astra and finally an Audi 80.

I disagree, the Lada was great value for money - 10 years, 100k and both my sisters and I learnt to drive in it.

When it became mine I went to town on it, Lada were rallying in the UK so tuning parts were available.

Mine got 15" Lancia wheels (from the scrapped Beta), twin choke weber, Janspeed exhaust, uprated suspension, dash, wiring and interior from a 1600 and a stacking stereo separates hifi. It was quick for what it was, would keep up with a 1275 mini!

My dad only ever had Reliant Robins!

Always fancied one and nearly bought one a few years ago much to MRs C's horror!

My mom had a fiat 128 which I always quite liked.

Your dad had more than one? :omg:

To be fair they proved quite reliable, he had around 6 I believe. Only 1 proved to be a bit unreliable.

My dad worked for ford and the cars I most remember are a Morris 1000 van that he bought from omskirk car auctions on a wens night it was still sign written as a painter and decorators van the next night me and my brother re painted it on the exterior with two tins of gloss paint green and cream dad fitted a bench seat in the back after doing a head off and valve grinding job on it and hey presto it became a people carrier on the Friday evening 3 kids mum and dad set sail for Cornwall for our summer holidays in a caravan it never missed a beat.after that he bought a brand new mk3 cortina l in onyx green it was his pride and joy reg no VDJ987M I'd love to no what ever happened to her as it later became my 1st car after my dad passed away fitted it with American General grabber tyres and wolf race wheels I thought it looked way cool!

Looks like it was scrapped in late 1986 / early 1987. The last time it had road tax it ran out 15 01 1987. The DVLA records say the car was 1600cc in Red, so it perhaps had a respray after you sold it.

My favourite would be a toss up between Dad's 1969 MKII Cortina and his pair of 1954 Morris Oxford MO's all sadly long gone. Having said that I was pretty fond of the 1974 TC Mark III Cortina with the 4.1l 6 cylinder that he gave me as my first car when he "changed up" to a 1980 Datsun Sunny Wagon. The Sunny does not rate on my list anywhere!

Funny that, Dads/my MKIII was emerald green and I also remember the rego; AK5277. Other than my current cars its the only other vehicle I have ever remembered the rego of. I sold it to a group of chinese uni students in about 1986 and remember seeing it around well into the late ninety.
