With the overwhelming choice of Apps for Smartphones and Apple, please post your recommendations or experiences of driving Apps here to help us find the best.

I am going to try out these two free Apps and will report back my findings. :drive:

First a 'Black Box' recorder - Daily Roads Voyager

Second is a Navigator program - Waze

If you know of any useful driving Apps don't keep it to yourself, let us know about them :beer:

Two sat nav programs... 'Navigator' and 'NavFree'. I lean towards Navigator mostly but sometimes I go with NavFree if I fancy a change.
For diagnostics on later Mems cars I use 'Torque Pro' - a great little OBDII app.

I use Waze and it's real time updates of problems saved me when I was on the way to Manchester Airport for a flight to Kuala Lumpur.
I suddenly saw notifications of stationary traffic a couple of miles ahead on the M6, a lot of it. I was able to ask for an alternative route that got me to the airport only 10 minutes after my expected arrival time. In time to check in normally.

I later heard that there had been a massive accident that closed the motorway for a couple of hours. Without Waze I would have missed my flight. :broon:

Used Waze today and I was quite impressed with the route chosen and the live updates of traffic, cars broken down, etc. I thought it was good that for any warnings it did ask you to confirm if the incident was ongoing or had it gone. :yesnod:

A few things I did note;

1) As Autoexpress noted in their review; "Muffled voice instructions are the only letdown."
The sound quality is very, very poor :nonod: Come on Waze developers this has to be an easy fix, the quality of the voice instructions are, to be frank, terrible. Why are they so muffled?

2) My phone (HTC One X+) was very, very hot after the 50 min journeys, never got that hot with the M8 App running. :-?

3) Not sure about the wide screen view showing lots of info for the roads not on my route, roads I would not be using. Whilst traveling along motorways do I really need all that info on roads for a mile either side? I'll leave judgement on this for now.

Moving on,

+1 for the Torque App. If you have OBDII compliant cars get this App and a bluetooth OBDII reader (I bought mine for £12 from eBay) and you have a great way to see what you engine is doing, check and reset fault codes amongst a host of other things. I use this on my BMW and it is very good. Being as tight as a ducks .... I use the free version, Torque Lite;

The free version does mean you can try before you buy :broon:

Thanks Adam I will have a look at your navigator App recommendations too.

Keep 'em coming guys :beer:

Just trying to help with Waze
1 You can change the voices, for instance, Elvis tells me that "there is a speed camera reported ahead uh ha"
no muffling on my galaxyS3 (uh ha) but it is routed through the stereo.

2 It is working the phone pretty hard and charging at the same time can make it hot.

3. You can change the info an notifications to "just your route" in the settings
