I did see the post in question, and as a bloke I didn't take any offense at all, I took the "men are" pricks line, as a lighthearted throw away line, often used by the fairer sex to indicate their frustration with the behavior of many blokes. However, we all see things in a different light.

This all happened a month ago, have you been stewing on this all this time John?
Mate, that can't be good you, to take insignificant quips to heart and have them chew away at you for so long, you should have raised the issue with a moderator back then and a clarification of the "men are pricks" line could have been sought and I'm sure you would've been satisfied with the result.

However, you if you feel you must go, then I wish you well and If you have a change of heart, feel free to return.

 Apologies for yet another post on this but having looked at this again, noting the OP of the comment made a further post to explain the context of her throw away 'generalisation' remark and has not posted since, I can only say that you need to look again at these posts.

I see nothing wrong, I would go as far as to say I have seen you make far more biting comments aimed at individuals. The comment made here was not even directed at you.

It is very easy, especially when life is dumping cruel twists and turns on us, to take a comment on a forum the wrong way. If the same discussion had taken place in the canteen at work or in the pub you would have laughed it off and ripped into the OP. Unfortunately on the internet, without that immediacy of response, people dwell on comments, going over them again and again. It is all too easy to build it into something it was never intended. I Know I have been guilty of this on more than one occasion.

It hurts and we can cause ourselves a lot of unnecessary grief.

Come on John, where else are we going to find such an opinionated, cantankerous old git like you! :P

This happens on every forum, at least all the ones I have frequented (NO! It's just a co-incidence.)
Discussions get out of hand and someone gets offended, They post an "I'm hurt and I'm going away-Forever!" message and all the very nice members reassure them that it isn't their fault and they are very very valued.
The poster sometimes drops out of sight for a while but almost always surfaces a few days/weeks later and the cycle starts again.
John, If I recall you have said this before. I'm not being critical, well maybe a little but here's what I do when someone pisses me off on a forum. I just go silent for a while, usually a couple of weeks gets the anger out of my system, and then I will log in again, suss out the forum and decide if I am going to stick around or not. If I leave, I just leave-end of story. No wringing of hands or sad farewells. If I decide to participate again I generally avoid threads that the nasty party is posting on, and things generally work out. Eventually most of them get banned.
One thing about internet pricks...If they can get under your skin, they will. If you just go away they wander off and annoy someone else.Unfortunately it's not like real life where you can punch them in the face or cut off their valve stems.

Good luck!

John, I am relatively new to this forum but I feel I have been made welcome by all who have posted their tips to help me get my MG back on the road.
You in particular made some valid points and pointed me in the right direction a few times, so for that I thank you.
As a regular on forums (usually football related), I have come across many posters who sometimes take something a bit far and I do leave that forum for a while, as once I've had my say I feel that I need to calm down and not post for a while. However, I always come back feeling refreshed and wanting to contribute.
From the little contact we have had, I feel you have a lot of experience and knowledge to pass on to the newbies like me and I reckon the forum will be worse off without you.

John, I'm not on here often, but find the site very helpful if I need any help with The TF.

Always enjoyed reading your posts, and think of you as, the voice of reason.

I think you will be missed and it would be a shame. The site needs people to put a positive side, against some of the comments I have read.

All the forums need to keep members, face book and other interests tend to be mean less people post on the forums. Change your mind and ignore the posts that you object to. Or give a good reply.
