I think the end has come for my F, mechanic checked the engine today, HGF as expected but also one of the linings has split top to bottom! I think the expense of repairs will be beyond both the value of the car and my wallet!

I have been quoted £200 from a breakers for a used engin but they advise that the head gasket and cam belt are changed on this prior to fitting.

Parts may be available soon :hgf: :nonod:

Replacing the liner whilst the engine is disassembled anyway shouldn't cost much that much more than the head gasket.

Russell replaced a liner in Felix while head was off - FROM THE TOP... it is just about possible without further dismantling.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
But ask yourself - what else are you going to replace your MG with?

We were faced with the same question earlier this year when ours failed her MOT quite catastrophically and were faced with a large bill for repairs.

Since buying our MG, We've had fun, met good friends and decided that the MG has given us a change of lifestyle, one that some cheap 'Eurobox' would never of given us.
So the money that it would cost to repair and keep our lifestyle changer was nothing compared to what we would loose.

Yes, the decision was a bit heart over head I guess, but driving into work this morning in our little MG still puts a smile on my face and I know that it was worth every penny to keep her on the road. :drive:

Good luck and choose wisely... ;)

All cars have niggles.. If you like it keep it running. After selling mine I'm regretting it but i will have another toy car sometime in the future. Until then I'm busy with more study and dad duties :)

I heard a rumour that Rich only got a MG so he could go down and see MGF Mania for a glass screen and oggle at a person called Sonia??

Thats what Really and Whiz said anyway....

There may or may not be some truth in that rumor.

What is fact... Is that Peter & Sonya still have our rope from our last meeting.

Thanks guys, at this point the mechanic says although he could change the liners he is against this as in his experience the don't last or lead to lumpy/uneven running. He is on the look out for a replacement lump and a decision will be made then. :-?

The car is car more than a daily driver and has given years of pleasure, I bought it five years back with the thought of running it for a year of fun and getting shot of it, unfortunately I got hooked on the little motor and it has become engrained in my life, many weekends lost tweeking and upgrading it later we end up here. I do hope to get it going again but finances are not great at the mo so other things may practically have to come first. :bat:

Thanks for all your kind words

Agreed David. Felixs Liner was shot and Russell replaced it from top. He's still a bit lumpy but much better than before... The lumpyness is a fueling issue I'm sure... Or timing although Russell did that.
