mgtf id plate

:bang: Being a novice mger this forum is great for answering those sometimes annoying things you come across that niggle in the back of your mind.........my model is a mgtf 135 2004..................and i spend the majority of my sparetime ignoring pointless jobs like mowing the lawn etc and playing with my new toy..............one afternoon i pulled up the boot carpet and just above the cd autochanger there was a id plate.................it had a serial number on but before that number the plate says mgf.............surely it should say mgtf...............alarm bells ringing.......is my pride and joy 2 cars ,,,,,ie a mgf rear end used to repair a rear end shunt.........or rover using mgf surplus panels to feed the tf..........

No worries - all of the MGTFs are the same!

Do not worry, that plate your saw on the firewall is the BODY NUMBER all plates said MGF although some later ones said Rover MGF, there will be two numbers 000?????? which is the body number and ROV AAA 46 ?? ?? which is the product code for the body.

The early cars had the body number under the front passenger seat up to around VIN 004500.

This body number ties in with the build sequence number (which is not the same as the VIN) an example VIN 636240 has a build sequence of 111331 and used body number 00115556 - Bodies were taken out of production for QA testing, development cars and pre- production cars. The Cup racing bodies were specially made by Mayflower and they didn't have mainstream body numbers and were never give a VIN number either and the Cup racers were not built at Longbridge.

If you give me the last six digits of your VIN and Registration Number i can tell you when she was born and the exact specification. The 2004 model year started in July 2003.

A quick look, Born on 26th January 2004 @ 13.12pm and was first registered in Northampton on 1st March 2004. she is Trophy Blue with Blue/Black Leather interior. the 135 engine fitted is the lower emissions (the early 135s attracted a £260 RFL)

I can do a full birth certificate, but need some more information please. the body number would help first, (the build sequence was 106170) and then i will explain how to find the glass codes (dates them)

:woowoo: Wow thanks bryan that information is fantastic......I did not know that sort of information could be found,even the time of birth..........yes all the info suggests my car has been kept standard so far colour,and trim correct...............it proves the vehicle has not been messed about............my rear plate on firewall reads..........Rover mgf xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That is great, If you look at the windscreen and both side windows, there are makers details printed on the glass and underneath all of the details there will be a single digit with some dots to the left or right of the number. i would like to know the number (possibly 3) and the number of dots to left or right. they will all possibly be different.
