Here's hoping Jules pulls through. :hugs:
We have got used to the drivers walking away from serious crashes, but this is a wake up call. They have made the circuits much safer but this goes out the window when a massive recovery crane/tractor comes onto the circuit!
What could be done to prevent this happening again?
Should lifting vehicles be able to work from behind the barriers? Should movable barriers be erected around the crashed car before removal/ or instead of removal? Should recovery vehicles have their own protective barrier around them?

Maybe they should think about a kind of underride barrier for the recovery vehicles?
Of course lower as on a truck to make sure the race cars cannot dive under the vehicle, the area between the wheels should be covered in some way.

Just seen a video posted by Steven Moreau (in French) of the crash...Dear God... that was far worse than any of us could of imagined on hearing the news yesterday...Just praying Jules can pull through.

I'm not surprised that they didn't show the accident on the F1 highlights on BBC3 later in the evening! Let's just hope that he'll pull through.

That is terrible.Like most motorsport fans my prayers are with Jules Bianchi.
Martin Brundle a expeirenced former F1 driver who had a similar crash with a marshal at the same track had concerns about trucks on the track before this happened, even commentating live he spoke the words before the accident, what if other cars go off there in these conditions shame it fell on deaf ears.In those worsening weather conditions at the time a drivers safety should be paramount.

Could be that cranes positioned behind the barriers would be a safer bet. Of course you'd still have marshalls scurrying around rigging the cars to be lifter out of the way. That always scares the liver out of me, seeing track workers trying to clear cars and debris off the track without getting killed.
Mind you, the whole F1 experience is 100x safer than it was back in the day. In the 50's-70's drivers were getting killed on a regular basis.
Regardless, my thoughts are with Bianchi and his family. I hope that he is able to fully recover after that horrible shunt.
