Engine fan.
On my TF160 I have just bought, the engine fan comes on after I've done about 6 miles & carries on blowing all the time.
Surely this is not normal. The fan on my F hardly ever engages.
Is there a problem?

How old is your Tf because the earlier ones have a independent sensor for the engine bay fan where as the later models the radiator fan and the engin bay fan come on together.

It will have a dedicated sensor on a bracket behind the expansion tank I suspect it may be faulty.
I am assuming that you have no overheating issues, even if you did I would be surprised if the engine bay would get hot enough to cause the sensor to open the circuit so quickly if it was working properly.

My '53 Sunstorm has a sensor, and the fan never comes on. It registers 139 degrees on diagnostics as if the circuit is open (i.e the sensor isn't connected) yet if I take the connector off it the fan comes on! I think the engine bay fans are a lottery!

Yep, sounds like a dodgy sensor. Swap it with the one off your F, Roger. If that fixes the issue :broon:

Just ordered a new sensor from MG/MGTF spares fro £15 inc p&p :broon:
See if that cures it.

Swapped mine from the F that I know worked - made no difference!

Well, I have fitted a new sensor & it has made no difference
I have no overheating problems, so where do I go from here?

That's a mystery. Have you had an OBD reader on the car to check for any fault codes? There is an overheat sensor somewhere and if that fails perhaps its default is to switch the engine bay fan on to cool the 'overheat situation'?
I know that Adam's car shows that fault in the overheat circuit on OBD and I suspect that's why he has issues with that sensor.

I agree about the engine bay fan operation being a lottery.I never heard the one on my last car work even on runs when other F drivers fans were running mine was not.I checked it to see if it was working and it ran fine when I disconnected the sensor.
I can't say I've heard the one on my 160 run either.
