MY first part of my run took me to a place called seighford......a few miles west of Stafford.......(Staffordshire)
.
Where I passed this hall......seighford hall.16th century manor.Given to Richard eld by queen elizebeth 1st as a reward for being paymaster to royal forces in ulster..My journey then past the ww2 airfield now used for gliders and fun rides in lambos......closed today.........thru eccleshall to a village called swynnerton pictured below.
above and below-cattle in a tranquil setting.
I think the germans were very interested in bombing this area in ww2 (iswynnerton was important to the war effort)
above-lord staffords house
swynnerton is the home of lord Stafford and during the war women made the bombs and bullets in a factory for the armed forces..these women are known as the rose girls....swynnertonhas a army training base and chinooks often pass overhead, low enough to see the rivets....nice country area with lots of rabbits,pheasents.badgers.foxes, buzzards and deer....The deer are often seen sometimes leaping over hedges into the roads in herds of ten or more....and no it doesn't have to be night time to see them...........On again to a town called stone famous for joules ales and its a canal town.....stone once had 2 breweries john joules and bents brewery. The breweries set up in this location, because of the quality of the water beneath stone.
stone is in the valley of the river trent
above is aston marina its on the outskirts of stone town........with plenty of narrow boat moorings.....on thru the town I stopped at one of the boat yards...
This boat yard like aston marina is on the trent and Mersey canal. The boat yard has a old dry dock and a pump out facility..There are plenty of canal bridges in this area, which bare the scars from the ropes from days gone by when. boats were pulled by horses...After driving on to market drayton for breakfast...(market drayton=home of gingerbread)......The driving bug had well and truly took hold........drove to rocester near uttoxeter home town of lord bamford and is jcb factories...........Bamfords have made some nice water features around there factory..................
lord bamfords father started making homemade trailers and selling them at uttoxeter market........now the business is known worldwide
hope you liked the pics. :hgf:
