We've been taking motoring holidays for several years in the UK but one spring was so appalling we decided to go south. We already regularly go out to my wife's original home in Bilbao to stay with the mother in law but that's not really a holiday.
The first time out we did 6 nights seeing 8 countries and 13 border crossings but the mileages were too high and it was more driving than holiday, the second time we decided to spend 3 nights in Verona with 2 nights down and 2 nights back but even then the daily distances were too big.
Last year we decided to take 2 weeks instead of 1, 4 nights out instead of 2, 6 nights there and 4 nights back. Planning shorter days on the run out and back worked well, we managed to spend a few hours out of the car each day and lots of time in Naples.
This year we will probably do 3 nights out and3 back but only go as far as northern Italy, probably towards the east.

Posted 8 years 8 months ago #165763All the last years we (my beloved wife and me) went to the UK by our MG.
This year, as the front subframe mounts are now o.k. as the headgasket is since September 2015, I'm looking forward to the sunny days for travelling around. I'm planning to travel to Vienna in Austria and to Venice in Italy while the Easter vacation. My youngest son Bennet (at the age of 13) has never seen these places, so I'm going to visit these towns with him.
At the end of May there are vacations again, we booked a pretty holiday flat with great look-outs at Ramsau (near Berchtesgaden/Watzmann) for one week We're planning to go there by two cars, our daughters Vauxhall/Opel Calibra and, of course, the MG.
Let the sun shine!

Some might be aware from my profile name (G0RSQ) that I am a Radio Ham.
Once a year there is the biggest Radio related flea Market in Europe, at Rosmalen at the "Autoron".
So this is the excuse to make the effort and get away for a short weekend.
Only problem is the boot on the MG is too small for some of the bargains that can be found, but my Wife thinks this is a good thing!
It just the 5 Hour motorway thrash to Dover after work that gets me.
