MGF intermittent grinding/scraping from front end?

MGF intermittent grinding/scraping from front end? was created by Andyfletcher1

My F has developed a strange scraping/grinding noise at the front. Seems to sound like drivers side. Started when slowing up to junctions, but appears at low speeds, especially when changing gear or over bumps?
I've looked underneath, can't see anything catching. Some people say maybe arb bushes?
Brakes all changed 12mths ago, they're sound.
Hope it's not too serious?

Hi.
If you notice a grinding/grunching at slow speeds over bumps it may be the front suspension wants greasing.

You can get at the grease nipples with the wheels at full lock. Give each nipple about 5/6 squirts from a grease gun.
I use a Lithium based grease.

Regards
Tony ;)

Thanks, i,'ll give it a try. Before you through changing bushes etc.

Not as any squeaks, grinding etc in last 3 years owning car. Then took it out today and grates randomly - sometimes on open road(under 30mph), between gears, slowing up ? Makes a right racket, then disappears for a while!

Wheels not catching, cannot see any obvious worn bushes etc. I'll try the greasing as someone suggests as a first fix.

I'm pretty sure this should work.To check the grease nipples need doing press down on the wings hard and you can hear the groaning noise.

Just a heads up that the F has grease nipples on the rear suspension too. Unlike the TF. :yesnod:

Checked each front wing. No noise when pressing down at each corner.

Don't know if it would cause the effect you're hearing but have a look at the ARB drop links. One of mine was broken and I'm told it's not uncommon.
