Well the moment has come when my laptop has given up the ghost..a while ago I noticed how my Toshiba c50 laptop would not stay on for long running on its own battery power....I've been running fine just using the charger plugged in all the time......but tonight a icon came on stating battery not detected....now I cant power up ....the on off button is illuminated.....my question is to those that may know is......is it just a case of buying a new battery....ive read somewhere that the pc may need to accept a battery when replaced :rant:I'm now using my mobile phone to look at the t-bar..its not has good

Just buy a direct replacement battery for your model of laptop and it's plug and play. :broon:

The non genuine ebay ones will be ok, but wont hold charge for long.Amazon may have the genuine batteries for sale.
PC world is usually just to dear and they probably wont stock your models battery anyway.

Have you tried removing battery and see if it boots up because most laptops will boot just on an A/C supply my Dell does having said that as a rule they work with a dead battery too so laptop maybe in hibernation and software maybe preventing it starting until battery is charged or replaced but if you remove the battery and disconnect power leave for about 15 min then try booting with just power supply connected it should boot up then you can at least use it until you get new battery

All good info above. :broon:

I bought a non genuine battery for a small Dell notebook type laptop I have. The only issue was that the computer kept telling me it didn't recognise the battery and wouldn't charge it if the computer was in use. It charged fine when the machine was off though, and would run on AC without issue.

So just a note of caution that there may be some electronic tag on a genuine battery. No idea if Toshiba have a similar system to Dell.

My p/c battery died after 8 months and i have just used a/c for the last 4yrs as £30+ for a new battery is daft as they only last 8-9 months so £30 for 8-9 months is silly money
