M.O.T. TIME

:wave: Well mot time is here again...........booked in tomorrow at 9.30........didnt have time to do the rear upper balljoint on passenger side.......so we will see what happens?,,,,,,,,,the mrs kia is booked in half hour after mine in the same station......any failure on her car and im likely to have a ear bashing...... :spank: ..........the tf will have the hardtop fitted back on it in the morning and next week ill get my finger out and do the balljoint.......get her tracked........i week left now before the tf is hybernated for 6 long months

well me and the mrs both set off to the mot station......me in the tf and she was in the kia.......left the mot station and went for something to eat.......just as i was finishing my breakfast ,,,,the mobile rang.......mr bluestreak your cars are ready one has passed and one failed..........which one failed i asked.............the mg he said........after putting the phone down...i gatherd my thoughts.

on collecting the car the tester told me it had failed on emissions,exhaust leak and offside hand brake not working.

he gave me a quote for the work......off top of my head it was going to be £300....but this was a rough estimate give or take what they found.........they said there was a minor leak from the front pipe(exhaust downpipe flexi)............called in a kwik fits and they wanted to supply me a full exhaust system for £500 minus the lambda sensor....which they were quoting over £100 for....and even said my tail ends would be black and not chrome...........i left and after a couple of calls i bought the downpipe from local car shop and a recon caliper............they will be deliverd monday.................mean while back at the ranch off came the hardtop .......hello engine

removed heat shield from manifold....reversed car on ramps and proceeded to remove exhaust.......bullnitting kwik fit.....ok there was a bit o light shale on the flanges...a kwik wire brush would of neatened them up........i think they would rather supply you with everything new and scrap yours at the click of a finger........the lamda sensor unplugged next and then un bolted the frontpipe off the cat end and then the manifold end......didnt take long....not a great deal of work.......this winter i will spend more time on inspection :yesnod:
below is the removed exhaust section.....which i have yet to remove the sensor
......thougt i heard a rasp on the exhaust....quite liked it....the emissions were never a issue before so i assume the leaking exhaust upset the reading.....................................my mrs had a laugh chanting her car was the best........hers is a 56 plate,stored outside,driven in winter has reached 108,000 miles never failed a test and is still on the original exhaust system which still looks good........mines only done 45,000........the exhaust section i pulled off looked in good nick...doesnt it?.....its never had a chance to corrode..theres plenty of meat on...which makes me think...theres no point in buying a stainless one of these if there just going to fail in the flexi joint anyway...this one will be skipped...but keep this in mind ..i bet there is some second hand ones like these on ebay now and again.......its the flexi which is the weak link in the system.....

one thing i thought about while doing the job was ....the ramps i have are worth thier weight in gold.......



so the next thing on the cards is to remove the lamda sensor........i think i may take it into work.......where i have access to oxy/accet..........i was going to buy a lamda socket

but just i was about to click buy on ebay.......i thought of course ive got crows feet......

no not me personally......but these if they fit...as the sensor is in a bit of a corner...will check in the morning


i will use these and give it my best...dont fancy buying another sensor.has i aint got money to burn...to be honest the sensor looks tidy with no corrosion....so it might be easy....but my vice aint set up yet in my shop...so into work monday it is.

Shame about the exhaust, Mark, I would have used the opportunity to fit a stainless performance one myself, but I have replaced the flexi on my first TF for a standard one.
I do like your ramps, Mate, I must get a set of those! Hope the rebuild goes ok....

Also having a spot of trouble myself...think my AICV valve is sticking occasionally, as the tickover is sometimes about 1100 revs and when I floor it, there is a slight buck in the engine, also revs are dropping slow.
Then all of a sudden its nice and perfect again. Will have to get one in and fit, but do I buy second hand, just in case its not that, or do I buy a new one anyway...mmmmmm
does this sound like AICV trouble peeps?

Frustrating about the exhaust. I see the MGOC has part WCD106091 on offer this month at £64.95.

im not sure about the iacv ...i always thought when they went wrong the revs are hunting up and down because the wizardry is strugling to tune the engine without the valve....and there is a method on here for resetting them...older types i believe could be cleaned..........yes i wanted a stainless system but theres life in the old back box yet.......change the flexi for now.....the stainless back box will come later....i havent the funds to spend....mrs daughter got married last week....and so on.......her car had new michelins and new brakes.......the cupboaards are empty my pockets are bare......my tf at the moment is in a thousand pieces..taken a caliper off,rear bumper off,removed full exhaust system......had to buy caliper and exhaust quickly so its motd before hybernation.....no time to wait for bargains to arrive

sundance here is a youtube video by our very own leigh ping....it shows the revs hunting on the rev counter and a preset method......i believe mine and your iacv cant be cleaned ....thier disposible

on stripping my exhaust off the car..it gives you a good view of the underside,,,,,,,i spotted a chafing wire from my cat and my handbrake cable was chafing....it hadnt siezed but it was cutting through ready to let in moisture


and i tried on the crows foot ready to remove the sensor.....it fits :woowoo:
