It looks a lot for the money... £12.99 BUY IT NOW PRICE. But I wouldn't advise using scotchlocks for the connections. :nonod:

whats the point if you can start the car with the original key without fathing about chopping wires.. ...........youve got to put the key in the ignition anyway to take the steering lock off and put the ignition on.....so why not carry on that extra turn to start the blighter.......ive got cars with both systems and feel i wouldnt want to chop my mg wiring just to fit a start button.........the mazda i have is keyless.......the car recognises you have the fob on you....so when the start button is pressed..the steering lock releases.....but like i said before if youve still got to fit and turn keys then its a waste of time......or is there a clever whizz kid on here that says they can posh it up a notch and do away with the key ;)...........and if i ever wanted to buy another tf .......i would not buy one which has had these types of fitments connected to its wiring system.. :nonod:

  and if you still think of buying this item off ebay......check out the picture....the connections supplied are crap.......aswell as not wanting to use scotch lockss....those spade connectors on the relay should be fully insulated in my opinion.....and then theres the feadback for this seller.......one seller who is maybe french said tout va bien...........and another says the quality is crap and he would not fit it to his car and intends to bin it!.... :nonod:

As someone who has owned and driven a car 40 years ago with a separate starter to the ignition, I also have never seen the point of putting an extra button into the MG system.
Every one to their own, however. :broon:

My 1956 Standard 10 had a separate ignition key, and a pull switch starter  so been there and done that. :yesnod:

If my memory serves me well, Allan Chambers (Diesel Destroyer) fitted a totally keyless system to his project. It wasn't cheap though. :nonod:

30 years ago i fitted a start button to my escort mk2.......i worked for a company making computer controlled mining supports.........sounds impressive but i just did a bit of soldering.......we had access to all manner of switches and connectors.......a geeks paradise...i wired up a start switch to my escort.....it was a push button and start is all that button did......because in reality it was hot wiring but with a button.....if it was pressed with the engine running the starter would mate itself to the flywheel ring gear.......i also added a switch under the steering columb which supplied earth to the contact breaker side of the coil....which acted as a imobilizer....you could cut the engine with this switch........this system probably made the car harder to pinch as the standard car was very easy for thieves to take away......the button amazed my friends...after that i always wanted one of those talking maestros...but the ones i had were dumb........i used to find starting my landrover funny.......although it was built in 1983 it still had a starting handle............normally with a crowd watching i would get the starter handle out and wind her up......it was great......much more useful.....mmmmm with a stater dog on the crank pulley on my tf i could put a handle through my spoked alloy wheels and crank her up....now that would get some looks wouldnt it!. :woowoo:

I have to agree with bluestreak.

What is the point of adding something you already have, Oh! I know why, cos it's cool to have a starter button....or is it.

I see a problem:

With the engine running, you or the passenger accidentally presses the start button, not good for the starter, ring gear or ones credibility.

And that kit on offer; rubbish Lucar terminals and you don't need a relay, there is already a start relay as part of the ECU. So you are paying £12 for something that costs about £4 from RS or Farnell.

And as for Scotchlocks, well I won't swear or issue profanities suffice to say that they should be banned!

Geoff.
