Greetings to all. I've just upgraded the seats to a pair of 80th anniversary jobbies found on that well known auction site plus the armrest. The next step will be the door card pods. I'm told that the units I have are not TF but F. TF lever recess are normally oval not oblong. The car is a 2005 115. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers.

i am no means a expert.....but avery keen fan of mgs......and my guess is that those door cards are standard on the 115bhp tf...a form of cost cutting if you like...has to bring the cost of the 115 to a more affordable price by using basic f doorcards..but not seen on the 135,160 models....has they have the later oval handles and a tweeter :dry:

Cheers for that. Makes absolute sense. I'm assuming a change to oval should be straight forward, although I've thought about having the original pods recovered with a suitable grenadine fabric. Thanks again for upper reply. Very much appreciated.

Should be your 'your reply' not 'upper reply,'

They changed the door cards with the Mk2 F(2000/2001). The mk2 cards also hold separate tweeters.
They are otherwise a straight swap, but obviously you need the oval escutcheons too.
MGR used up the remaining stocks of mk1 F door cards on the 1600. As well as plain black door mirrors and a few other things.

The TF115 (like mine) came with the same door cards as the MGF. All other TF's had the later door cards.

Fortunately it is an easy swap. The actual door pull lever (the chrome part) is the same on the square handles and the newer oval ones, the only difference is the plastic surround.

When you get the new style door cards, all you will need to convert to the new style handles are these;

MG TF / LATE MGF INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE OVAL SURROUNDS PAIR
Completed

They fit over the chrome door pull instead of your existing square one.

The new door cards will also come with tweeters in them, which your standard door cards will not have. These make a nice audio upgrade and do make a noticeable difference to the sound quality. Fortunately the wiring loom should be there. Normally it is taped up in black tape further down the loom. All you need to do is untape the wire, plug in the tweeters and they should work. 2 min job.

It was only the mk1 that came with the square handles and no tweeters.

The mk1 didn't have the actual wiring for the tweeters so I got the same from a ZR in the local scrap yard.
