Lifting the engine
I am getting ready to lift the engine out of the subframe, is there a tried and tested way of doing this?
Are there any good places to attach a chain or strop and more importantly places to avoid?

This isn’t a direct answer to the question & it isn’t really directed at a K series but I always spread the load by using a bar with loops on the ends & one central.
My bar is optimised for Land Rover 200/300tdi. This linked by screw shackles to the engine lifting eyes & the balance optimised for those. For other lifting jobs we used 2” wide ratchet straps, right under the sump & frapped to prevent slipping.
The bugger of our undertakings is the distance one from another. I have lots of specialised kit, which I would willingly lend to like minded folk. I’m sure others would feel the same.
I’d like to bet the finest tool source sits with our dear antipodean friend. The Cobber Collection.
And it would be corralled & curated in the Giant Tool Box.

Another thought is to fit a swivel to your existing hook 🪝 or to replace it with a swivel hook.
The engine attitude will always be governed by the relative position of the frame & chain, these two lay a on axis or at 90* to it, this isn’t always ideal (!).
Just a thought.
