Hi all just to be safe most of the times I lock the Mg with the "double lock" by pressing the button twice, but form a couple of days ago I noticed it lock only to "stage 1" even tho I press the button twice!! My spare key fob tho works OK, I replaced both batteries when I got the car, is it the fob which is knackered?

FM

That's a strange one, Frank.
First thing I would do is replace the battery, but only because that's the cheapest option. :dunno:

Definately the battery in the fob. I've just acquired a Mk 1 MGF-VVC, had it for about four weeks and had a similar problem.

What I also found is that the alarm LED on the dash continues to flash rapidly when you open the door - only to be extinguished once the car is started.

Don't forget to re-sync the fob afterward.

Dont change the batteries while sat in or near the car though........go somewhere it cant see you as it confuses it somehow.

I changed mine in B&Q carpark, sat in the car & was then stuck for half hour trying to figure out why it wouldnt start :dunno:

It uses a rolling code, and by changing the battery this upsets the sync. Theres a procedure which involves unlocking the car with the key in the lock, switching ignition on then pressing a button 5 times or something similar. Although whenever i've done mine it usually works after 2 or 3 presses.
