My soft top is getting very very shabby, its time to replace it I think. I therefore have a couple of questions;

  • How hard is it to replace?
  • What should I pay for a new one?
  • Where should I get a new one from?
  • Are these guys any good?

Hi Craig!

Are you planning on replacing the fabric part or the whole hood? If it's the hood complete with frame then it's pretty easy so long as you have two people helping. I used this guide: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dotcomoff/home/motoring/mgf_faq/diy/exterior/hood/hood.html

As for how much I don't know... depends as you'll probably get them much cheaper in the UK but then you have to add shipping on top. If you do find on in the UK you want & they don't ship internationally pop me a PM as I'll be happy to post it on to you. :) Oh & you might want to check out these guys: http://www.the-t-bar.com/showthread.php?t=309 :thumbsup:

I was just planning on replacing the fabric as I suspect it would cost several arms and legs for shipping to Tassie for the whole thing. I like the look of the Car hood Scotland MK1 hood particularly since they have a glass rear screen and they ship world wide. I'll have a further search about before I buy I have a couple of months before winter sets in and I really have to do something about it.

Thanks for the offer of shipping it for me that was very civic minded of you ;)

Ok hun! Well good luck with your decision and if you need the fabric part shipping over just let me know! I think it's quite a fiddly job but I'm sure there's a how to guide on MGF/TF Central. :)

Get in touch with Car Hoods Scotland - they are good to deal with, quite a few members of MGFreedom have bought new glass screens from him. I think he will be able to sell you just the fabric for you to fit to your old frame - this would help with the postage cost.

Hi Craig,
I had just the material part sent over but I went with the Car Hood Company one piece including rear window. As I have a half cage, I cannot fit a glass rear window so this was a cheap option. It came with all rivets and instuctions that was two years ago! Lazy and scared to tackle it myself, but my roof is way past it's use by date so upon my return I must tackle it. http://www.carhood.com/mg.htm There service was excellent and it came within ten days, they gave me by return E mail VAT free price and shipping from memory under $400. Being one piece was also a lot cheaper than a seperate zipper window and roof.
