Just had a weekend away at the inlaws...

Took my keys (house, car etc) with me... was convinced for about an hour I had lost them, thankfully have found them and all is ok...

Got me thinking though, I have no spare immobiliser, what would have happened if I HAD lost them?:shake:

There not expensive to get. Sometimes people even have the T4 thingy at meets, you just need a spare fob.

I keep the EKA code written on a card in my wallet so if the fob breaks I can still get in and drive.

hello,
if the question was really genuine!
The T4 is an MG/ROVER diagnostic tool.(TESTBOX 4)
Your EKA is the code that allows you to access your vehicle using your normal key , they are unique 4 digit codes that came with the car from new and should be passed to you by the previous owner along with the key number and radio code.

I do feel better for that!!

Was genuine :) is it easy to find and buy ta T4? doubt the ex MG Rover dealer here wil help me if I need anything with a car I didn't buy form him :S

so the EKA should be in the manual? better look if I have it :S If I don't have it is it possible to retreive it from somewhere? Thanks

Frank your EKA code (Emergency Key Access) will probably be on a separate card rather than in the manual. If you don't have it you can retrieve it by plugging into the dealers diagnostic tool - this reads the code from the cars ECU

just found the company for MG rover key codes in the trade directory of this site, it continues to show how helpful this site really is :) all they need is the VIN so I don't need to take the car back to the UK for it's EKA :D

Hello, Saint Russell (MG Rover Solutions) advertises on this site, has a MG Rover T4 diagnostic computer and will supply a programmed Key Fob for £45, he needs to come to the car to plug in and programme, takes about 2 minutes to do. i have heard of cases wher MG dealers charging £180 to supply and programme a fob!!! He will also give you the EKA (Emergency Key Access) code. You can buy this four digit code for £15 from the MG Rover codes website advertising on this site, they only need the VIN and your credit card. once you have the EKA code it is a very good idea to have a spare key (with you of course) to unlock the immobiliser, blanks can be bought for £5 from Sussex MG parts and cut by any key cutter who can do double sided cutting. i am told that it is quite a fiddly job to use the code to unlock the immobiliser ~ the key has to be turned right and left in the drivers door the requisite number of times to unlock the thingy. i hope this all helps and give Russell a call. Regards Bryan Young (yes its my real name, as couldnt think of anything silly to call myself)
