My bonnet release cable has broken. I have managed to temporary repair/bodge it with a cable tie connected to the catch at one end, the other end is sticking out from the grill so I can now open and close the bonnet.
Is it a difficult job to replace the old cable with a new one? And why does it have to run the length of the car. Most cars have the handle under the dash board.

I think its some sort of security method. With the top down, Or up and a villan with a knife, any one could open the bonnet. At least this way to open either end you need a key. Pity most of us spend all our time finding ways to get round the need for a key.

Yep, that's the reason.
I don't think it will be a difficult job, but it will probably be time consuming threading the new cable through.
I have fitted an electric bonnet release, in exactly the same way as the electric boot release.
