Probably a stupid question, but does anyone know what this connector is? while preparing to drop the engine out of my 1997 VVC I found this connector unplugged. Could this be the source of all my problems?

Cheers

Is that not the fuel injector plug? I'll take the hood cover off my dad's when I get home tonight and double check for you as the engine cover and head's already off :yesnod:

What colours are all the wires? I may be able to trace it from my circuit diagrams.

If they are blue with a redstripe; grey; black; and green with a grey stripe - then Clive wins. O2 sensor.

According to dieters site, blue and red go to the Lambda. It is also only 4 wires, so I would guess at a sensor.

Blue and red (RU), Slate (S), Black (B) and LGS (Light Green & Slate). You can see all 4 colours on the pic.

Thanks guys, it does seem to be the Lambda sensor, my next question is, if this has come apart while I was at full throttle in 4th gear 6500-7000rpm could this have caused damage to the engine.

I wouldn't have thought it would damage the engine. May have caused fueling issues though.
