Don't want to freak you out, but that's not the nature of electrics. It could overheat for months before it eventually fails. It is a common misconception that electrics "blow" quickly, unless it is a very very big overload.
It will probably be OK though.

Is there anything i can check to confirm this is fine. Temperature of the connection? Anything like that?

You can check the board isn't getting warm in the connector areas. Someone must know what they are for and what they are rated at.
