Interior lights.

Came out this morning and realised the interior lights were on in the car, which was locked.
Opened with key but had to jump start to get it going.
I've removed fuse 12, so that the lights don't stay on, but that means I have no power to the clock or ICE head unit (so much for getting a sat/nav then :nonod:)
I've read some bits that point to either a problem with a short or the sensor in the door lock.
The circuit diagram on dieter's site shows connections but I need to know where thw wires are in the car to make some checks.
Also I haven't the faintest idea how to go about this, so any help would be gratefully received :yesnod:
Thanks in advance.

I know this sounds a daft question, but it's always best to ask. You have checked that the lights aren't switched on under the mirror?

Yep - I flicked the switches and the lights stayed on in both positions. The footwell lights were on as well.
I was fiddling with the rear view mirror the other day - would a short there cause this problem?

It's possible. I they were working before then I would lean toward checking out what you have been fiddling with. Not sure it brings on the footwell lights though.

Other than what's been said already, the other place to be looking is the micro switches in the locks. Try giving each door a couple of robusts slam shuts.:dunno:

You could try disconnecting each door lock mechanism and seeing if the lights go out. Make sure that the other door is closed first though.

OK - having put up without interior lights for 4 months I decided to have another go.
After checking my MG Companion I realised that the problem started about the same time I put in chrome hood strikers and replaced the sun visor bolts with chrome ones.
Guess what? I loosened the drivers side sun visor bolts and the lights went out
Turns out the new bolt had caught the wires running to the rear view mirror lights and had caused a short. After removing the central A Frame trim and repositioning the overtly long lead problem solved.
Now I have my stereo back, as well as the clock (as they are on the same fuse which I had to remove to stop the battery draining) :woohoo:

Nice one!
Who'd have thought that a simple bit of chrome bling could cause trouble?

BLING IT!!!!!!! Thats what comes with fiddling, obviously caught the earth wire, if it was the live feed it would have blown the fuse and you may never have found it. Good that it is sorted and everything now works :woohoo:
