Wheel bearings. was created by cjj

I will be buying some wheel bearings soon and was wondering which are the best.

I am assuming they are much of a muchness, but is there a holy grail of wheel bearings?

I have seen QH for £20ish and genuine Rover ones for £50ish.

Obviously I want ones that will last, but I also wondered if there are racing types that, while being heavy duty, are also of a low rolling resisitance. The reason I ask is that they do not spin freely compared to ball bearing types. I realise that this is due to their construction and heavy duty nature, but if some are better constructed to minimise losses then I would pay the extra.

If not, I will just go QH. :)

Well Timken also do the wheel bearings for aircraft landing gear.B)
SKF supply most car manufacturers.

I would expect Rover used QH anyway?

Yep, and I can get 2 QH for less than one Rover.

Just wondered if there was a top class bearing out there.

When I was at Brown & Gammons it was strange but the guy there was asking if I went through a lot of wheel bearings with putting a lot of power through them

My answer generally I go through one on each hub about 12-18 months which I thought was bad, his reply was when B&G racing their F's they are lucky if one lasts 2 days

So I guess they use the same bearings as generally available
