Brake Bits
Want to do the work myself but also want to be sure that they are not cheap and nasty replacements.
Is it always necessary to change pads at the same time when discs are renewed?

You should always change pads when fitting new discs, the old ones will have worn like the discs and will start a similar wear pattern on the new ones.

Anyway, I said that I use the local motor factor generally, but I have used ebay and just went for the cheapest trader with a good feedback.
Mark's quite right, new discs, new pads!

Always new pads with new discs, go to www.mg-tr-parts.co.uk (David Manners group) they are selling TRW front discs for £35.25 a pair and front pads for £23.50 ~ the rear discs are £35.25 a pair and the pads are £17.65 a set. these prices are plus delivery charge. Powerstop brakes is another one go to www.motoringclassics.co.uk they do EBC products better discs and green stuff pads (better pads) but they will set you back £45.00 for a set of pads, but they are well worth the extra expense. another one is www.sussexclassiccar.co.uk ~ i would reccomend that you replace the countersunk locating screws with stainless ones as they tend to rust in and shear off. you may also have difficulty in getting the old discs off, they rust onto the hubs and need a "lump hammer" to get them off! _ i had heard of one where the discs actually shattered when trying to remove them with a large hammer. good luck
