Having an MGF Streptronic which was virtually undrivable 3 months ago and i had taken to three automatic transmission specialists in the region of 70 miles away. Was told i needed a new gearbox approx £2000 and by another specialist that nothing was faulty . But it stayed in a low gear would not change and would judder and pull forward at any halt. Came on this forum was given advice to change gearbox fluid and use only part XPT002002OF which i got from Rimmers. Specialist said they knew what they were doing had done this job for years but did not use this XPT002002OF fluid. Got a local mechanic to change fluid lift up rear etc and use the correct fluid as you advised on here ..Placed de-humidifiers in several areas of car too . Cost about £50 .. £8 for de- humidifiers. Now car is running like a dream all faults are gone and all thanks to the kind attention of this forum and its good members .. Stress gone worry gone and still can afford to eat Thanks ;o))

Result.
Autogearboxes use the oil as an integral component to their operation, so it makes sense that you need the correct component.
You must be doing something wrong if you can afford to eat.

I do remember him saying that there were two main issues with the autobox. 1. Wrong or old fluid. 2. An electrical connector on the gearbox that faced frontwards and collected water/ mud/ crap.
