I think they are the same although ebay prices are from way too cheap with an unknown maker to £200

Best place I found are local motorist places normally about £40-£45

Although you may need a bolt set too and a new set of gaskets, the bolts normally rust up an seize

Yep, there's only two cats MK1 and MK2/TF. MK1 is straight;mk2 has a 90 bend on one end.

Get a 'Cat saver' kit from ebay, longer stainless bolts and long nuts. Then grind the old nuts off. Saves hours!

Can you fit a MK 2 cat to a Mk 1?

That would then mean that I could the fit a Mk 2 exhaust without needing the extra 90 degree pipe?

I think you could but you would also need a 22mm lambda sensor plug, as the TF has a post CAT sensor which the MK1 doesn't

Not necessarily. The plugs are cheap.

Just block the lambda sensor hole with a suitable bolt.,:yesnod:

You would need a decat pipe with the 90 degree bend, but just because it has a 90 degree bend doesn't make it a decat, just a mk2 cat. The jury is out on whether decatting a TF helps or hinders power output.
What is undisputed is that the exhaust will be a lot noisier.

If you were changing them anyway then it would probably be better fitting the Mk2 cat and backbox. You would just need a blanking bolt for the post cat hole as already said.

You can buy cheap cats if your car is before 1st Mar 2000 as cars after that date need a cat with a type aproval which bumps the price up.
