Hood gets stuck at times..

ok.. I'm quite exited about being here .. and getting inputs from you folks, especially David ..
I've got another problem with my MGF and it's a damn hood that gets stuck midway when I try to lower it completely.

It opens up fine and latches tight.. But, when I try to bring it down, it just gets stuck midway.

I then have to keep trying / slamming it down, and lo and behold suddenly it will go down completely..
Anybody's faced this issue .. as it gets quite embarrassing standing by the road side trying to slam the hood down...

If you sit in the car and push the 2nd bar (I think) backwards it should go down ok.. You can also buy a set of straps that go onto the bars and stops it from locking up..

Quite right!

If you stand on the driver's side (assuming it's right hand drive) with your right hand on the front of the hood, as you pull the hood away from the windscreen you'll see that the next crossbar tries to go underneath the front. If you pull this towards the back it frees up and the hood will go down easily - don't force it or the hood will tear.

I'll give this a go tomorrow and post back.. I assumed that my hood had an issue, great to know that the MG is living to its reputation

Smart butt!!!! Yeah mine was only a quick search to show him what I was on about I have got some elastic stuff and am going to try and make my own!!

Well, to be honest, if pushing the 2nd bar works, I'll be delighted .. and may just continue pushing the 2nd bar to get it down..

Until I have some cash floating around .. Sorry, am currently low on cash as I've just remapped (with DPF removal, etc) my Alfa 159 2.4D, and blown around £700 .. worth every penny though .. Now, have 265 horses at my disposal.. & around 470lbs/ft torque

Welcome to the T Bar ~ we all answer things very quickly, especially when you are trying to vandalise an expensive hood. As Teri has kindly said treat it with care and buy some straps and not the expensive ones. you should not pay more than £15 for a pair and as David has shown the original MGR ones on ebay are £10 plus postage.
