I am from CYPRUS and i have a 1997 mgf 1.8 vvc.My mechanic has locked the car using the key and now the car want start , the red light does not go off. Also it does not regognise the key fob using the unlock the door and press 4 - 8 times the key fob. Please note that the dealers in Cyprus have nothing to do with the MG brand any more, they do not even carry spares.I was told that their is a method with turning the key in the lock to the left or the right. Please help.

When you press the buttons on the fob, does the red light alter in any way?
If not you may need to put a new battery in the fob, and then try pressing unlock 4 or 5 times.
If you have the original security card that came with the car it will have the EKA code. This is what you can use by turning the key in the lock left and right.

1. From an MG dealer who still has access to that database holding the EKA codes
2. Hook up the car to the T-4 diagnostic system and read the EKA code
Sorry I don't have better news for you!

If you can't find a local mechanic with the proper diagnostic equipment they may be able to help you out.

Here is a review of their Faultmate system on a Landy. http://www.stockholmviews.com/p38/faultmate-review.html
Note, I don't have any interest in the company other than wanting their products!:woohoo:

Check if the red light is changing when you press the fob buttons. Try a new battery in the fob. Check that the battery holder in the fob is attached by its three points to the circuit board, if not they need re-soldered in.

In addition, does the second fob work?
