drivers lock goes crazy, sometimes

drivers lock goes crazy, sometimes was created by MG Fan

Some mornings when unlocking the car with the fob the drivers lock goes crazy making unlocking and locking noises. Other mornings it opens as quiet as a mouse.!!! Then having driven away sometimes it locks itself. Today it opened the passenger lock, but not the drivers door so I had to move to the drivers door and retry, it then opened. Has anybody got any ideas. The MGR garage want the car all day at I guess with a hefty bill to boot.

:welcome2: The culprit is usually the door lock mechanism, and replacing it with a good working one usually solves the problem.
I also know that Clive(CJJ) took a lock apart and repaired it successfully too.:yesnod:

WELCOME TO THE T BAR :woohoo:

A new door lock is £165 plus fitting and takes about two hours. same problem with two forum members which was sorted cheaply. The first was done by Russell (MG ROVER SOLUTIONS) for £30 ~ he took the door card off and sprayed the lock with WD40 to disperse the water that had got in, making it unlock and lock again before the door could be opened. that was six months ago and its been fine since. The second one was exactly the same problem (water in the electrics) a good dose of WD40 solved the problem, the owner did the work himself.

Thanks for your comments better try this to see if it stops the problem. Forgot to mention this was a new lock at £165 from MGR supplier, which I fitted in about an hour, using the information from the forum

Try the WD40 first to expel any dampness from the locking mechanism, check the connections, spray them with WD40 and if it still playing up i suspect its a faulty lock, get the MGR supplier to replace it.:S
