TF press tools
after the accident wiht my TF I realised how difficult already is to get certain body parts for these cars after just 6 years production stopped, anyone knows what happened to the press tools? where these saved by some company to provide repair panels?
FM

I would imagine the body panel presses etc would have gone to the Chinese for the new TFs as there are only changes to the front bumper.

The original press tools for the MGF and MG TF bodies were rescued from being scrapped by British Motor Heritage. Mayflower bodies who produced the F, went bust and the tooling was bought from the receiver by Stadco in Coventry and they continued to make bodies and original panels for the Fs & TFs. Stadco were in discussions with SIAC to move all of this tooling to Longbridge for the bodies for the TF LE 500, and at the eleventh hour the Chinese pulled the plug and decided to produce the bodies in China with all new tools. Stadco then decided to "melt down" all of this tooling, when BMH discovered this the bought the lot. They also got many tools for Triumphs and the original tooling for Jaguar E Type bonnets, which was thought to have been lost. i know the sales director in BMH and can contact him to see if they are up and running with this tooling, the reason i say this, is that they had to move all of the tooling for the MGBs , Midgets and Minis from Northumberland and have only recently gone into full production of panels and bodies for these models. Watch this space.

Frank, Brown & Gammons, Rimmers, MG Owners Club Spares and Moss Europe can supply body panels for the F & TF The current list price for a rear wing panel is around £400 sterling including VAT @ 20% plus delivery.
Also please see my reply about the press tools.
Hope this all helps

yes I asked as rear panels apparently there aren't much left Moss had one (which I bought) and rimmers have just 2 remaining. I was just wondering for the future of our cars

Mine are damaged and rusty, but hopefully just in the bottom angle, which I should be able to bend up myself
as no curves are involved.

Which bit is the dog leg? If its the rear part at the bottom that gets crushed by idiots jacking it wrongly then I made them up for last MOT with a curved section too and they went just fine - welded in nicely after I ground all the rust off!
THIS is the original post I did about it.
