Has anyone fitted a B&G Coolant Alarm?
All has been going well until I got to the step where I have to splice into the 12v Feed. I have a Steptronic gearbox so they give additional advice on where you need to splice into the wiring which is below:
"The live connection (Green with Yellow trace wire) needs to be spliced to a
12 volt ignition feed.
On vehicles up to chassis number 610317 this can be done by connecting to the
white wire going into the relay pack situated behind the engine management ECU
mounting plate."
The instructions are listed here: Coolant Alarm Install PDF
Unfortunately they don't have any pictures. I've had a look and there are a few connectors around there, so I'm not sure which one to choose.
While I'm waiting to hear back from B&G, does anyone know what the Relay Pack behind the ECU plate looks like and can I splice into it as normal? (Either using connectors or just soldering the 2 wires together)
Thanks in advance

Posted 13 years 7 months ago #23074To be honest, I wasn't sure and got my ignition live from the cigarette lighter and fed the wire through to the engine bay.

Posted 13 years 7 months ago #23075The supplied wire isn't quite long enough to route through to the cigarette lighter, I could always lengthen it I suppose. I might pick a white wire, strip back the covering and put a Multimeter and see what voltage it gets on ignition.
Thanks again

Because my setup is homemade all the delay circuit and warning led is housed in the cabin anyway, so that the only wire I had to take through was the actual float switch feed.

Posted 13 years 7 months ago #23077So, it's all wired up and beeps/flashes when the ignition is switched on. The only thing that is confusing me is that when I take off the header cap and push down the foam floater the alarm doesn't trip.
(The ignition isn't fully on at this stage, just stage II I think so the power goes through)
I'm a little confused now
Thanks for all your help David.

Posted 13 years 7 months ago #23080Don't forget that there is a delay built into the system. You may have to hold the float down for a while.

Posted 13 years 7 months ago #23082Last week I changed the coolant pipes under the car
and gave the system a bleed then topped up the header tank.
On my first drive of about 5 km the warning went off and sure enough the
level had gone down. I topped it up and no problems since, so I guess that this tells me
that both the coolant alarm and the "jiggle valve" automatic bleeders are working as they should.:woohoo:
I hope yours works as well!

You were right David
20 Second delay and both alarm and LED worked. That makes me feel a lot better
