I'm after some bits
Well, Deepblue failed her MOT today.
She failed on emmissions (again).
Soooo. I am going to treat her to a new Cat and and new Lambda sensor.
I can get the Type approved (must be Type approved) Cat for £122.40 and the Lambda sensor (Bosch) for £56.34 from Erocarparts.
I found this sensor on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-TF-ZR-MGF-1-4-1-6-1-8-95-On-Pre-Cat-Lambda-Sensor-/180653980732?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a0fd0fc3c but for the price difference I might just go with the Bosch one.
Any one tried these sensors or have any contacts for cheaper parts?
I'm not doing well at the moment, 3 cars MOT'd in the last couple of months and they have all failed. Even the Focus ST which was it's first MOT.
So, after shelling out £253 on the van to get it through it's MOT last week, I'm looking at saving a few pennies, but not at the expense of new parts, if you know what I mean.

I bought a pattern sensor off ebay, it was pants, so finished up with an oem one, I'd stick with the Bosch one.
Have you and Broon swapped luck

Have I got Broons luck? I don't think so. It fails every year but needs an Italian tune up just before the test to pass.

This was today. No chance to take it for a spin.

My mate, who does MOTs, showed me the oil temp sensor that MOT testers have to have. It fits down the dipstick tube!
So why don't they use it? Too lazy, that's why!

I was just commenting to Anne about the "engine oil temp sensor disabled" bit at the top of the sheet. It seems that they think water temp is the reading to go by.

I am still going to get the bits, but I am going to phone another local kwikfit and ask if they will do a free emissions test. If they do, I will get the engine red hot and see what the emissions are like, then I will have a word with the original about a free retest.
I am interested in whether it is their bad testing or whether I do have a problem.

This time the MOT guy (who chatted to me about Rover V8 engines a lot as soon as he found out I had a Range Rover too) revved the living daylights out of her for ages to get her nice and hot and she passed (Retest day of course!).... she had a new CAT and a Lambda sensor too 3 years ago. (which weren't needed as that first fail turned out to be the little vacuum hose that passes by the oil filler bracket - it had rubbed a hole in it! GRRR).
