I tried a 12volt one that ran off the cigar lighter, and it worked well for a couple of months and then went phut!:dunno:

A decent battery impact driver is a couple of hundred quid, so I got this 240 volt 450nm for £54!:yesnod:

I bought a set of impact sockets for $99. and got a free 110v impact gun (equivilant to your 220v)
It paid for itself when dismantling the suspension on the MGF, and really saved my bacon when taking apart the front subframe mounts for replacement.
We have a chain called "Canadian Tire" similar to Halford's. Whyere you call them Halfrauds we call our lot Cambodian Tire. (Or Crappy Tire)
As much as everyone like to trash them they have inexpensive tools with a lifetime warranty and every now and then have tool sales that are such a good deal that you would be crazy not to buy them. Like an 8pc set of 3/8 drive torx sockets in a neat plastic case for $12.99 (about 8.GBP) They normally cost $6.ea! They also did matching hex andscrewdriver bit sets, and yes, I did buy them all. I may own an MGF but i'm not crazy!

Do you have ALDI supermarkets in Canada?
It's a German chain that often have good tools/electrical goods at cheap prices. It's the only supermarket I enjoy wandering around!

No Aldi here. We do have supermarkets that sell clothing, and home electronics, but no tools.
In the USA Sears Department stores are a good source for tools but the Sears in Canada only sell a limited selection.
Canadian Tire is our best source for decent, reasonably priced tools. You can always spend too much and buy Snap-on or MAC tools or go the other way and buy junk Chinese tools at Princess Auto. (Sometimes a crappy tool is the best one for the job!)

Having seen this thread I did a bit of research and found that Ryobi do an impact rench as part of their one+ range and as I already have a drial that came with 2 18v batteries I may get one through work, I maybe able to get it at a discount ;)

Talking of Halfords, they do a range of tools called Halfords Pro, apparently these are made by Snap -On, Tang and Mac to their own standards, Halfords gurantee them for life. Every year or so they change the design of the socket sets so they flog off the old designs cheap like up to 70% off, last year I got 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch socket sets all for around £100, I've also got a set of ratchet spanners and a very good screwdriver bit set based around a rachet spanner.

My problem with air tools is the noise the compressor makes, upsets the rabbits, the neighbours dog, the kids at no.14...................
