I've been having a few issues with the Nissan's braking.
They didn't seem as sharp as usual and there was a continuous irritating rubbing noise from them. Don't get me wrong they were still better than the MG's brakes!
Initially I decided to change the brake fluid as it hadn't been renewed for 5-6 years, and give the system a good bleed.
There was an improvement, but not great.
I slipped up to my mate's MOT station and got the car on the brake tester. Verdict, the brakes wers good enough to pass an MOT but there was a 20% imbalance on the front brakes.
The brake setup is the same style as the standard MG setup.i.e. A fixed calliper carrier and a floating single piston calliper.
Usually, the problem is that the sliding pins seize over time.
I stripped the brakes, and indeed, the bottom pin was partially seized on the nearside, and the bottom one on the offside was
completely solid!
I also found the reason for the rubbing noise.

The remarkable thing is that the brakes were still good enough for the MOT!:dunno:
All the bits of friction material were still in place but loose.

A little bit overdue for replacement!!!!! ~ it is incredable that they were working so well (albeit 20% down) surprised the MoT tester could not see the condition of the pads and backings.

To be fair to him, he was just letting me get an idea of the brake problem, not testing it.:yesnod:bryan young wrote: A little bit overdue for replacement!!!!! ~ it is incredable that they were working so well (albeit 20% down) surprised the MoT tester could not see the condition of the pads and backings.
