Suspension height challenges

Guys, i need some help on this. After acquiring the MGF I have been in suspension height measuring mode, challenge is that one side was higher than the other... front passenger higher than driver, rear passenger lower than driver. Did some research and thought the rear passenger Hydra unit must be stuffed so creating and imbalance. So i invested in lowering pins, suspension bushes 2 new shocks ( rear) and a replacement rear Hydra. The car is now lowered with pins, new shocks and bushes ( rear Tie bar) and pumped to 425 PSI - (didn't replace the Hydra as it held a negative pressure) . So what i now have is Front driver at 340mm (ideal) Front pass (365) and both rears at 335mm. So the front are really out of wack and the same pressures - Any ideas??

FYI the shocks on the back were of different length, so that's the initial problem fixed, maybe the front have the same problem, 2 new units are now on the way. Can you really get 25mm of difference on individual hydragas units?

The good news is the car handles great now, but drives me nuts as i see it sitting wonky on the drive.

That is strange. The passenger is way too high with lowering pins fitted. I don't believe the shocks affect the ride height.

Have you tried dropping the pressure slightly on the passenger side?

That's the next plan, however i wanted to wait until the new shocks arrived to see if the existing passenger front is seized in some way. concern about reducing pressure on one side and not the other is will I get a different spring rate?

You could quickly disconnect the bottom of the shocker to rule that out. I think you could have a 10% difference in gas pressures without any noticeable 'spring rate' problems.

365mm is un-lowered height. I suppose you're sure they/you put the right pin back in on that side front.

Presume either air bubbles wíthin the system. Needs to get proper evacuated and refilled several times until no more air bubbles get visible in the pumpe hose when evacuating.

Also it could be from the beginning that the distance washer between pin and hydragas unit got lost on one side.

25 mm height is divided by 4 about 6mm pin length (or washer height).
The 425 psi pressure needs be equal on both sides. The LHD car co-driver side needs less pressure.
Adjust the height with the pump. The pressure is less important.
Though, the front to rear difference needs to be equal. (+-5 to 10mm)

Hope this makes sense.

Regards
Dieter

Dieter,

many thanks, i plan to change the shocks and then have a play with pressures, i have found a man with a pump and can empty the system and re pressurise. may concern is what David expressed ie. is the pin the wrong one.... guess the answer is to de-pressurise and drop the suspension and re measure..... :-(

You don't have the old pins then?
