Hamilton overtook Schumacher at turn 1, and that was called brilliant.
Hamilton tried to overtake Maldonado at turn 1 and was penalised.

Have a look at this montage. Now tell me what did Hamilton do differently?

The pictures do throw a new light on it for me -- but he probably cooked his goose when he used Massa as an additional steering aid at the hairpin, and so was not going to get the benefit of any doubt.

Yeah I must admit I thought at the time that he'd caused the maldonado incident, but I think these pictures shows that the difference between win and fail is tiny.
And that a successful overtake, to a great extent, needs a willing victim.

Hence the difference between the Schumacher and the Maldonado overtake was that Schumie knew he'd lost the corner and didn't want a collision when he was still in the points, and Maldonado just turned in early forcing Hamilton off the track.(Which is strictly against the rules) ruining his own race and points finish.

It was Maldonado who should have been penalised.

On the Massa pass, i think Massa did intend to give Hamilton room but actually collided with the rear of Webber. Then Hamilton had nowhere to go but Massa's sidepod.
