As long as your alternator and cooling pipes are protected, that's the main thing. The only thing your missing is heat protection to the firewall and the engine inspection hatch.

If you want I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a second hand one for not much money.

There is a heat sheild on the bulk head like the one at the top of broons picture but I'll look out for one when I'm at the scrapy, Mrs TC has one on her ZR so I expect they will be on other MGR cars.

My heatshield is also missing. I have the two side plates protecting the alternator and cooling pipes. But wont the heatshield trap hot air underneath. My thoughts are if the heatshield is not there will passing cool air from forward movement help move the hot air away from the manifold and disperse out of the two boot vents, thus helping to keep the engine bay a little cooler. As I said just a thought.

What year is your car, Paul?
I wonder if this heat shield thing is age related.

Having just taken my heat shields off recently, I can at least say my engine has the two plates rather than the full heat shield type. My motor is a 1989 MPI.

Mine is a '99 so maybe it's a mk1 thing.
